Billy Elliot Is Broadway's New Sensation

Billy'>http://www.applause-tickets.com/billy-elliot.asp">Billy Elliot technically is not new since it's been running for over eight months. Let me start off by saying that I have never seen the show. Truth be told the show doesn't really interest me. Never has never will. But the figures don't lie. Since it first opened to rave reviews last year Billy Elliot has consistently grossed over a million dollars each week. Not bad for a show most people didn't think would be a big hit. Yes it was one of the biggest shows in the history of the London Theatre but that doesn't mean it will sell here. New York audiences are very finicky. I should know. I am a New Yorker. So whether I like it or not Billy Elliot is here to stay. That you can count on.

The Season of Billy Elliot on Broadway

If you haven't had the opportunity to see Billy Elliot in London or on Broadway yet, maybe you will have an upcoming occasion to treat yourself and someone you love to one of the best shows ever to play on a live Broadway stage.

Billy Elliot takes place during the turbulent economic times in England during a coal minors strike during the 1980's. In Billy Elliot, we are witness to a small coal mining town on the brink of starvation after being out "on strike" for nearly a year with no end in sight. Making things even more difficult for the Elliot family is when the youngest family member, Billy Elliot decides he wants to become a ballet dancer, much to the total dismay of his "generations-long coal mining family" roots. Billy Elliot is an amazing musical, complete with wonderful dance routines performed by three different youngsters all alternating in the role every other day for excited New York audiences. I saw the show three times several months ago, enjoying it as much as any of the several hundred plus shows I've been fortunate enough to see in my days as a legitimate ticket broker for Broadway.

Billy Elliot on Broadway is based on the major motion picture film of 2000 and has wonderful music by Elton John and Lee Hall (with a book by Mr. Hall) as well. Direction is by Stephen Daldry who also directed the film version as well. Billy Elliot won 10 Tony Awards and is selling out every performance in New York. The cast has talent that will have you remembering their performances for a long time to come.

If Billy Elliot sounds like a show that you'd like to take someone you care about to, you may want to consider calling a local Broadway expert like Applause Theater Service for tickets. Applause can be reached on their local New York number at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930.

Billy Elliot on Broadway is a Knockout Musical!

Billy Elliot on Broadway has been nominated for 15 Tony Awards in 2009. Although I am in the business of providing a personal Broadway ticket service, mainly for out-of-town visitors to New York City, I am an avid theater-goer as well. I saw Billy Elliot three times last October and knew it was going to be a top candidate to win several Tony Awards this Spring.

In particular, Billy Elliot may very likely win the BEST MUSICAL Tony Award as well as a BEST ACTOR Tony Award for the 3 youngsters that alternate playing the role of Billy Elliot. They are three wonderful young actors-David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish. In addition, I am pretty sure the show will win for the BEST CHOREOGRAPHY category. Gregory Jbarra (Billy's dad) is up for the BEST ACTOR Tony Award and the show could possibly win most of the categories for which it is nominated. Anyone remember The Producers winning 12 Tony Awards in 2001, the most ever in Broadway history. Could Billy Elliot beat that record?

Billy Elliot's music was written by Elton John. I promise you'll cry here and there when his ballads are sung by the very talented cast. Mr. Lee Hall wrote the book and the lyrics for Billy Elliot with direction by Mr. Stephen Daldry (who I think should win for BEST DIRECTION OF A MUSICAL). He directed Billy Elliot for the big screen several years ago and did a wonderful job with it. I saw a television special that showed Mr. Daldry and his staff interviewing the "three Billy's" when the show was first announced to come to play in New York City. Although we all must think that the directors job is simply to get the actors to follow certain steps, I was really quite pleased at how this television special showed us how "warm and friendly" the Billy Elliot team really is. They were good to the youngsters and very supportive at this "summer camp" audition for dozens of kids that were all vying for the role to star as at least one of the "Billy Elliot's".

Be sure to watch this years 2009 Tony Awards on CBS this Sunday June 7, 2009 from 8-11pm. It should be the best Tony Awards presentation in a long time. Enjoy.

Sincerely,

Rich Gladstone
