Why Billy Elliot of course. The 2009 Tony Award winner for Best Musical. The show which first premiered in London in 2005 is one of Broadway's biggest hits in years. Now I've never seen the movie. In fact I am the only one in my office who hasn't seen the show. Look I'm sure it is an amazing show. It wouldn't be grossing a million dollars a week and won all those awards if it wasn't. It just isn't my type of show. Besides I don't think that Sir Elton John is losing any sleep because some ticket seller from New York hasn't seen his show. The fact is that Billy Elliot is here to stay my friends. People love it. Awesome! Although I am a big fan of the show Billy Elliot, I often have to describe the show to callers to my ticket service Applause. It seems that although the show is based on the 2000 film of the same name, there are lots of people that haven't yet seen the film.

Billy Elliot on Broadway follows the film very closely and is about a teenager who develops a love for the dance. He comes from a coal mining family tradition from outside of London. It seems the miners are on strike and the town is in a declining state. You can imagine that in the 1980's London, during the Margaret Thatcher leadership era, that young Billy's family might not be too happy with his choice to try and gain admission to London's Royal Ballet School. After all, what would everyone think? His dance teacher does an amazing job training him and then getting him an audition at the school.

Billy Elliot on Broadway has an interesting story with excellent music by Elton John and lyrics and book by Lee Hall. Direction is brilliantly portrayed by Stephen Daldry who handled the same duties in the film version. Choreography is by the very talented Peter Darling. Although the musical is considered to be one of a somewhat "darker" nature, Billy Elliot has lots of funny lines in it along with fantastic dance scenes and beautiful music. You'll want to buy yourself the CD right after seeing the show. It takes 4 young actors to alternate the role of playing Billy Elliot. And they are one talented bunch indeed. Lookout for Billy's friend Michael who often steals the show with his extremely colorful wit and character.
Broadway and film veteran Gregory Jbara stars as Billy's dad and Carole Shelley as his grandma with Kate Hennig playing Ms. Wilkinson.

I loved Broadway's version of Billy Elliot and think you should probably consider going to the Imperial Theater yourself to catch the show. If you need advice on obtaining tickets, our ticket guru's are here to assist you.

Applause Ticket Service is a licensed ticket agency for Billy Elliot and all the Broadway Shows. Well as it turns out it is even more popular than I thought. It was just announced that last week Billy Elliot set a new box office record by grossing over $1,663,895.00. The previous record at the Imperial Theatre was also held by Billy Elliot when it grossed $1,574,501.60 during the last week of November. Let me start off by saying that I have never seen the show. Truth be told the show doesn't really interest me. Never has never will. But the figures don't lie. Since it first opened to rave reviews last year Billy Elliot has consistently grossed over a million dollars each week. Not bad for a show most people didn't think would be a big hit. Yes it was one of the biggest shows in the history of the London Theatre but that doesn't mean it will sell here. New York audiences are very finicky. I should know. I am a New Yorker. So whether I like it or not Billy Elliot is here to stay. In Billy Elliot, we are witness to a small coal mining town on the brink of starvation after being out "on strike" for nearly a year with no end in sight. Making things even more difficult for the Elliot family is when the youngest family member, Billy Elliot decides he wants to become a ballet dancer, much to the total dismay of his "generations-long coal mining family" roots. Billy Elliot is an amazing musical, complete with wonderful dance routines performed by three different youngsters all alternating in the role every other day for excited New York audiences. I saw the show three times several months ago, enjoying it as much as any of the several hundred plus shows I've been fortunate enough to see in my days as a legitimate ticket broker for Broadway.

Billy Elliot on Broadway is based on the major motion picture film of 2000 and has wonderful music by Elton John and Lee Hall (with a book by Mr. Hall) as well. Direction is by Stephen Daldry who also directed the film version as well. Billy Elliot won 10 Tony Awards and is selling out every performance in New York. The cast has talent that will have you remembering their performances for a long time to come.

If Billy Elliot sounds like a show that you'd like to take someone you care about to, you may want to consider calling a local Broadway expert like Applause Theater Service for tickets. Applause can be reached on their local New York number at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930.

If you think you might want to talk about other shows on Broadway, consider calling Applause or having a look at their up-to-date Broadway Show list today.

If you're flexible, the Applause folks offer Below Face Value shows at prices that will cost you even less than the usual printed prices on Broadway Show tickets. Although I am in the business of providing a personal Broadway ticket service, mainly for out-of-town visitors to New York City, I am an avid theater-goer as well. I saw Billy Elliot three times last October and knew it was going to be a top candidate to win several Tony Awards this Spring.

In particular, Billy Elliot may very likely win the BEST MUSICAL Tony Award as well as a BEST ACTOR Tony Award for the 3 youngsters that alternate playing the role of Billy Elliot. They are three wonderful young actors-David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish. In addition, I am pretty sure the show will win for the BEST CHOREOGRAPHY category. Gregory Jbarra (Billy's dad) is up for the BEST ACTOR Tony Award and the show could possibly win most of the categories for which it is nominated. Anyone remember The Producers winning 12 Tony Awards in 2001, the most ever in Broadway history. Could Billy Elliot beat that record?

Billy Elliot's music was written by Elton John. I promise you'll cry here and there when his ballads are sung by the very talented cast. Mr. Lee Hall wrote the book and the lyrics for Billy Elliot with direction by Mr. Stephen Daldry (who I think should win for BEST DIRECTION OF A MUSICAL). He directed Billy Elliot for the big screen several years ago and did a wonderful job with it. I saw a television special that showed Mr. Daldry and his staff interviewing the "three Billy's" when the show was first announced to come to play in New York City. Although we all must think that the directors job is simply to get the actors to follow certain steps, I was really quite pleased at how this television special showed us how "warm and friendly" the Billy Elliot team really is. They were good to the youngsters and very supportive at this "summer camp" audition for dozens of kids that were all vying for the role to star as at least one of the "Billy Elliot's".

Be sure to watch this years 2009 Tony Awards on CBS this Sunday June 7, 2009 from 8-11pm. Those of us in the ticket selling end of the Broadway theater business usually know which shows are going to become the "sold-out" mainstays for the next several years or so after the winners are announced. Although this past season on Broadway was much more exciting than in the last few years, it appears that ticket sales for 10 Tony Award winner Billy Elliot The Musical are starting to take off.

Billy Elliot The Musical is a terrific story based on the October 2000 release of the motion picture film called Billy Elliot. The film broke several box office records of the past, being nominated for 3 Golden Globes, 3 Oscars and 13 Baftas. The story follows the dreams and aspirations of a young boy from Northern England and his quest to become a ballet dancer. It takes place in the 1980's against the backdrop of turbulent times during a life threatening coal-miners strike in the Maggie Thatcher era.

There are 4 actors that alternate in the role of Billy Elliot. They all do a marvelous job as the show involves lots of dancing. Billy Elliot has won 10 Tony Awards in 2009 including Best Musical. Elton John wrote the music and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall. Stephen Daldry does a wonderful job directing Billy Elliot. The show has been a hit in London and is sure to play on Broadway for many years to come. In time, I am sure Billy Elliot will start to play to audiences around the United States as well. It's truly a great story of triumph over adversity.

Even as the recession was beginning to affect employment and consumer's spending habits in New York City during the earlier part of this year, sales for tickets to Billy Elliot The Musical were over 90 % occupancy. The recessionary times, at least in our city, seem to be lessening their hold on going to Broadway Shows, eating out and shopping. My opinion as someone who lives in New York City, is that Billy Elliot along with some help from a new crop of popular shows like West Side Story's revival, Hair The Musical's revival, God of Carnage and Next to Normal is that Broadway might emerge from these times as stronger than ever.

When you think about it, Billy Elliot's theme of difficult economic times, jobs being outsourced and unions having to renegotiate their terms and the dreams of young people making their own way in life, not simply doing exactly what their parents want them to-all directly correlate to the message in Billy Elliot The Musical. There are many lessons to be learned by young and older alike from this musical.

Although Broadway theater was holding up very well during the recession, I think Billy Elliot The Musical has brought about a very positive effect on Broadway in general. Right after the Tony Awards aired earlier this month, several shows started selling at a much faster pace at our company. We really feel that Billy Elliot is stirring up lots of excitement on Broadway. For itself and for many other shows as well.

I hope this information was helpful to you. The three fantastic young men who play the role of Billy Elliot were nominated as one for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, which I believe is the first time three people were nominated as one unit.

So many people have been back to see the show again and again and many are trying to make sure that see all three young men in the roll of Billy Elliot.

Billy Elliot was also nominated for 10 Drama Desk Awards and 7 Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The story takes place in a coal mining town in Wales where a young boy falls in love with ballet and instead of dedicating himself to football (soccer) he takes ballet lessons. The show is moving at many levels: the struggles of the miners against conditions and wages in the mill, the poverty of the miners, the struggle of a boy who is interested in dancing where his society dictates that young men should be involved in sports.

Applause has sold so many tickets to this show and have received nothing but thanks from the customers to whom we recommended Billy Elliot.
